Contributors

 

Takis Fotopoulos is  a writer and the editor of Democracy and Nature; he is also a columnist for the Athens Daily Eleftherotypia. He was previously (1969-1989) Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of North London. He is the author of Towards An Inclusive Democracy  (London & New York: Cassell, 1997) which was also translated in  French, German, Spanish, Italian and Greek. He is also the author of many books in Greek. Apart from his numerous writings in D&N and other international journals, he has also made several contributions to French, German, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian and Greek publications.

Henry A. Giroux holds the Waterbury Chair Professorship and is  currently the Director of the Waterbury Forum in Education and Cultural Studies at Penn State University. His primary research areas are: cultural studies, youth studies, critical pedagogy, popular culture, social theory, and the politics of higher education

Douglas Kellner is George Kneller Chair in the Philosophy of Education at UCLA and is author of many books on social theory, politics, history, and culture, including Camera Politica: The Politics and Ideology of Contemporary Hollywood Film, co-authored with Michael Ryan, Critical Theory, Marxism, and Modernity, Jean Baudrillard: From Marxism to Postmodernism and Beyond, Postmodern Theory: Critical Interrogations (with Steven Best), Television and the Crisis of Democracy, The Persian Gulf TV War, Media Culture, and The Postmodern Turn (with Steven Best). He has just published a book on the 2000 presidential Election, Grand Theft 2000: Media Spectacle and the Theft of an Election, and The Postmodern Adventure. Science, Technology, and Cultural Studies at the Third Millennium (co-authored with Steve Best). Forthcoming books include Media Spectacle and September 11, Terror War, and the New Barbarism.

Peter McLaren is a professor in the Division of Urban Schooling, Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, University of California, Los Angeles. He is the author and editor of more than 35 books on topics ranging from critical ethnography and the sociology of education to critical social theory and critical pedagogy. His most recent books include Che Guevara, Paulo Freire, and the Pedagogy of Revolution (Rowman and Littlefield, 2000); Life in Schools (4th ed.) (Allyn & Bacon, 2002); and Marxism Against Postmodernism in Educational Theory (edited with D. Hill, M. Cole, & G. Rikowski) (Lexington Books, 2002). Professor McLaren lectures worldwide on the politics of liberation. His works have been translated into 17 languages.

Chamsy Ojeili completed his doctorate in Sociology at Massey University, New Zealand in 2000. He is co-editor of New Zealand Sociology and a member of the International Advisory Board of D&N..

John Sargis has taught secondary school biology in the inner city for twenty-four years. He is a political activist and union leader.

Peter Pericles Trifonas is Assistant Professor of Social and Cultural Studies in Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto. His areas of interest include ethics, philosophy of education, cultural studies, and technology.  Among his books are the following:  Revolutionary Pedagogies:  Cultural Politics, Instituting Education, and the Discourse of Theory (Routledge) , The Ethics of Writing:  Derrida, Deconstruction, and Pedagogy (Rowman & Littlefield), The Right to Philosophy (edited with Jacques Derrida), Roland Barthes and the Empire of Signs (Icon), Umberto Eco & Football (Icon), Pedagogies of Difference (Routledge),  He is also editing upcoming series for Oxford University Press and Routledge.
